Under the Edit menu is MultiTimer Pro’s Preferences option. Select this, and the following window appears:
 
In this chapter I’ll go through the items in this window, from top to bottom.
Sound Effects:
Un-check this item to turn off the stopwatch sound effect when you click MultiTimer Pro’s start/stop button.
Save data every xx minutes:
If this is checked, MultiTimer Pro will automatically save its data at the interval you enter. Turning this on will ensure that MultiTimer Pro’s saved information is fairly up to date, should you experience a computer crash while a timer is running. Note that this “auto-saving” only applies to saving the time of sessions while a timer is running. If you are editing a log file, your changes will not be automatically saved at the given time intervals.
Notify if Mac is idle more than xx minutes:
If, while a session is running, your keyboard and mouse are idle for more than the length of time you specify, MultiTimer Pro will notify you and ask if you would like to have the total idle time removed from the total time of the ongoing session.
Floating window on by default in new modules:
As it says: if you would like the floating window checkbox to be checked by default (so that the floating window appears whenever MultiTimer Pro is in the background) when you create new modules, check this checkbox.
‚åò-<return> key press starts/stops timer:
You might want a keyboard equivalent to clicking on MultiTimer Pro’s stopwatch button with the mouse. If this item is checked, command-return will have that effect.
No “Stop timer and quit?” prompt on shutdown:
Normally, when you attempt to quit from MultiTimer Pro while the timer is on, a dialog will appear asking you to confirm that you want to stop the timer and quit. By checking this item, you can avoid this confirmation when you are shutting down your computer. With normal quits from MultiTimer Pro, you will still be asked to confirm the quit if a timer is running.
Allow changes to session times in main window:
As noted earlier in this manual, you can adjust the total time of a session, while that session is running, in MultiTimer Pro’s main window. You can disable this if you like, so that the only way to modify session times will be through the log window.
Include expenses in “Total Charge” subtotals:
This effects how the total charges are calculated for day/week/month/etc. totals in a log window. If this item is checked, then the amount of expense records is added to the total charge shown for days, weeks, etc. If it is not checked, then expense records exist separately from the total charges that are calculated from the times and hourly rates of sessions. In the latter case, there will still be a “Total For Expenses” item at the bottom of the log window, but the expense records will not be summed in any other way. The illustration below shows the effect of this preference.
 
Display ignored records in gray:
Just what it says. You might want to turn this off if you find the gray text too hard to read.
When saving/copying Log as text:
This last set of preferences requires a bit of explanation. As has been described, there are two ways to convert a MultiTimer Pro log’s data into text: by copying and pasting (or drag-and-drop), and by saving a copy of a log as a text file. One of the reasons you might want to do this is to import MultiTimer Pro’s data into a database or spreadsheet document. In order for such a document to perform calculations with the MultiTimer Pro data, you might want the Total Time information to be formatted as pure numbers, rather than the more human-readable “xx hrs, yy minutes”. This preference option allows the data to be formatted this way. By setting the second radio button (“Use numbers only”), the hours and minutes of a log entry will be copied or saved as unadorned numbers. Furthermore, a tab character will be inserted between the hours number and the minutes number, so these two numbers could be entered in separate fields of a database record, for example. The last item in this set of preferences is the checkbox “Apply this to dates”. As indicated, checking this will cause dates to be saved or copied in a more purely numerical format, which might be easier for some database documents to interpret.
